LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE
The Health Care Authority’s mission is: We ensure that New Mexicans attain their highest level of health by providing whole-person, cost-effective, accessible, and high-quality health care and safety-net services.
State General Funded Services
State General Funded services provide state-funded support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), or children at risk of developmental delay, who are not currently receiving services through a DDSD Medicaid waiver (e.g., DD Waiver, Mi Via, or Medically Fragile Waiver) or Community Benefits. SGF plays a critical role in ensuring that New Mexicans of all ages with IDD and children at risk of delay have access to supports. It helps promote independence, inclusion, community participation, and gives families relief and support when needed.

Please see SGF Service Standards (coming soon) for entire scope of services and personnel requirements.
Respite Services
Respite services offer flexible, short-term care to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) as well as children who are at risk of developmental delay. This support gives families and primary caregivers a much-needed break from the daily demands of caregiving, while ensuring their loved one continues to receive appropriate care and supervision. Respite helps nurture healthy development, family resilience, and community inclusion.
What Respite Services Provide
- Temporary, flexible care: Respite can be scheduled for a few hours, a day, or longer, depending on family needs. Care may occur in the individual’s home, in a provider’s home, or in a community setting chosen by the family.
- Assistance with daily living and safety: During respite, providers can help with everyday tasks such as bathing, meal preparation or feeding, toileting, and other personal care needs, ensuring the individual’s comfort, health, and well-being.
- Opportunity for social, recreational, and community engagement: Respite can include leisure, play, recreational activities, or community participation. Offering social interaction and a change of environment.

Stakeholder Input Opportunity
DDSD offers stakeholders and interested parties the opportunity to provide comments and feedback to DDSD about initiatives, service standards, and operations under the SGF Program. We value your input and want to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to review the draft and share any final comments or suggestions. Your feedback is essential in helping us shape the standards for the SGF community.
When reviewing the standards you will notice text in differing colors. This text is showing the track changes. It is allowing you to see text that was removed, added, or revised. The final copy will be a clean copy not reflecting this. You may also notice the Table of Contents is off as well. This is due to the changes in the document and will be corrected with the finalization of the document.
