Celebrating 21 years of progress in behavioral health advocacy in New Mexico 

SANTA FE— The New Mexico Behavioral Health Planning Council will host its 21st annual Behavioral Health Day on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Hotel Glorieta in Santa Fe, convening advocates, providers, and policymakers to spotlight the importance of mental health and substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery. 

This year’s theme, “Cultivating a Culture of Healing,” reflects the state’s commitment to expanding culturally responsive behavioral health services. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has issued a proclamation recognizing New Mexico’s efforts to advance culturally responsive care and the successful integration of 16 local collaboratives to strengthen community-based support. 

A highlight of the event is honoring New Mexico’s behavioral health champions within the following award categories to recognize their outstanding contributions:  

• Lifetime Achievement Award – Celebrating a lifetime of dedication to behavioral health advocacy and service.  
• Behavioral Health Services Division Director Award – Honoring individuals or organizations for their exceptional advocacy and commitment in strengthening statewide behavioral health efforts.  
• Stanford Kemp Award – Highlighting innovative approaches to behavioral health services.  
• John Henry Support Animal Award – Recognizing the vital role of support animals in mental health and recovery.  
• Behavioral Health Star Awards – Honoring individuals and organizations for exceptional service in their communities.  

Award recipients reflect New Mexico’s commitment to reducing stigma, increasing access to care, and promoting recovery.

About the New Mexico Health Care Authority
The New Mexico Health Care Authority connects New Mexicans to the care and support they need to live healthy, full lives. The agency administers Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), cash assistance, child support services, and behavioral health care across the state. HCA also oversees the State Health Benefits program for state employees and manages the Health Care Affordability Fund to help make coverage more affordable for working families. The agency licenses health care facilities, investigates complaints, and ensures providers deliver safe, high-quality care.
