New Mexico raises Medicaid rates for services supporting individuals with disabilities

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) received federal approval to increase Medicaid rates for services provided to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Provider rates in three different programs will increase in mid-January.

“Increasing provider rates strengthens the workforce and helps to ensure members receive the quality health care services they need,” Dana Flannery, Medicaid director said. “These programs allow individuals to remain in their homes and communities, avoiding institutional care. Improved compensation is vital for maintaining a robust Home and Community Based Services workforce.”

The rate increases apply to three Medicaid Home and Community Based Services programs.

  • Developmental Disabilities Waiver.
  • Mi Via Waiver.
  • Medically Fragile Waiver.

These programs were approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in December to raise provider rates based on a comprehensive rate study conducted in 2023.

  • Rate increases for the Developmental Disabilities and Medically Fragile Waivers will be retroactively effective to July 1, 2024.
  • Rate increases for the Mi Via Waiver will be retroactively effective to Oct. 1, 2024.

“We are committed to investing in providers, direct support professionals, and most importantly, providing support to the individuals and families we serve,” Jennifer Rodriguez, Developmental Disabilities Supports Division director said.

Medicaid rate increases vary across the three waiver programs and by service code. See the Medicaid Fee Schedule web page for details.
